The Brithsh obsession with dabbling with DIY is causing a 300 per cent surge in Monday maintenance requests. Requests for builders, plumbers, electricians and the like rises dramatically on Mondays, as homeowners seek to amend botched DIY projects attempted during the weekend. By contract, Saturdays and Sundays account for just a tenth of calls received all week.

It was also found that 74 per cent of homeowners take charge of their own household improvements - yet two thirds can't even hang a picture, change a fuse or put up a set of shelves.
